THE WILL OF RANDALL DOBYNS, ESQ,
"In the name of god amen, ‘The ninth Day of
August in the seventeenth year of the reinge of
our sovereign Lord Charles by the grace of god
of England Scotland France and Ireland King
Defender of the faith et Anno Dmi 1641 I RANDALL
DOYBNS of Compton within the parish of Newent in
the County of Glouc being in perfect health of body
whole sound and in perfect mermorie doe ordeyne
devise and make this my last will and testament
in manner and forme followinge viz: Imprimis I
comend and remitt my soule and body unto the
tuytion of the almighty Lord god my heavenly
father my creator and maker and unto his sonne
Jesus Christ my Lord god Savior and redeemer
and unto god the holy ghost my Sactifier and com
forter three persons in trynity and our godhead in
unity. And my most merercifull and loveinge Lord
god whom I pray and humbly beseeche to remitt
and to forgive unto me all my Synns iniquityes
transgressions and offences which I have com
mitted in thought word and deed,. the which I doe
know and doe and must confesse and.acknowledge
to be very many of and for the which I doe most
earnestly repent and am hartely sory, And alsoe
I doe humbley beseech my most mercifull and
loveinge Lnrd god when yt shall please his divine
maiestie to take and receive my soule and body as
one of his elect and chosen servants (of which num-
ber I doe hope trust and verily beleeve that I am
one) to reigne with his sonne Jesus Christ my Lord
and Saviour and others his most blessed people,
children servants and sayntes in his eternall and
everlasting kingdom of heaven there to give him
laude and prayse for evermore Amen, Now as
concerninge all the lands goods chattels money
plate and debts owinge unto mee wch god of his
goodness and mercy hath geiven and lent unto me
in this world the which I may bequeath geive
Devise and dispose, I will geive devise bequeath
and dispose the same as followeth, And for that I
would (for as much as in me lyeth) avoide the
unfittinge resorte to my funerall of vagrant and
disordered people and of those that have noe neede
to receave dole And to the ende that the poore
people onely shall have that which I shall by this
my will geive to them Imprimis therefore I doe
give and bequeath unto the poore people of the
towne and parishe of Newent the some of Six pounds
of lawfull money of England, And to the poore people
of Redmarley Dabitott the some of twenty Shillings
And to the poore people of Dymocke twenty shillings
And to the poore people of Oxenhall five shillings
And to the poore people of Pauntley five shillings
All the same to be distributed by my executor to
such persons of the said parishes respectively and
in such proportions as he shall think to have most
neede Item I geive and bequeath unto the parish
wrens (wardens) of Newent aforesaid towards the
reparacon of the parish church of Newent aforesaid
six shillings and eight pence of lawfull money of
England Item whereas my sonne DANYELL DOBYNS
now oweth unto me at the tyme of this my will
makeinge the some of three hundred and twentie
pounds of lawfull money of England wheareof two
hundred and ffiftie pounds is due to me by my sonne
DANIELL by specialty and three score and tenne
pounds wthout specialtie which said somes I doe
intend shall contynue in his hands untill the tyme
of my decease my will and meaninge is, And I doe
heareby give bequeath and remitt unto him the
some of one hundred and twenty pounds parte of
the said three hundred and twentie pounds as a
legacy given to him And the residue thereof beinge
two hundred pounds I geive and bequeath unto
EDMUND RICHARD CICILLIA and URSULA
DOBYNS the sonnes and daughters of my said
sonne DANIELL DOBYNS to be equally shared
distributed and devided betweene them viz: to
each of them the some of fyftie pounds which said
somes or leagacyes soe to them geiven my will
and desire is that my said sonne DANIELL
DOBYNS their father shall ymploye for their
benefitts in such manner as he shall thinke and
conceave to be most beneficiall and avayleable
for their profitte and behoose And to paye.the
same with the increase theoreof unto them severally
and respectively as they shall severally and
respectively accomplish their severall ages of
one and twenty yeares or be married viz: at which
of the said times that shall first happen or come
first to passe Item I give and bequeath unto the
said EDMUND DOBYNS my Cloake with all the
furniture thereunto belonginge, And my will is
that my executor shall uppon reasonable request
Deliver upp unto my said sonne DANIELL all the
said specialtyes which are or shalbe in my custody
or such of them as my executor shall or may law-
fully come by at the tyme of my decease concerninge
the said legacye given to my said sonne and his
Children, And allsoe I doe remitt forgive and
bequeath unto my said sonne DANIELL all and
every such sume and sumes of money and goodes
as my wife Ursula did in her lifetime give or
Deliver unto him, Item I geive and bequeath unto
ANNE DOBYNS one of the Daughters of my said
sonne PHILLIPPE the some of one hundred pounds
of lawfull money of England, Item I geive devise
and bequeath unto ELLENOR ANN DOBYNS the
youngest daughter of my said sonne PHILLIPP
DOBYNS all my fyldes grounds and lands called
or knowne by the names or name of the Botlowes
of the botlowes with the appertenances situate
lyeing ori being in Compton within the parishe of
Newent aforesaid in the said Countye of Glou-
cester, To have and to hould all the said fieldes
groundes and lands called Botlowes or the Botlowes
unto the said ELLENOR ANNE DOBYNS and her
assignes unto the end and terme of ‘Tenn yeares
next after my decease, Provided alwaies that yt
shall not be lawfull for the said ELLENOR ANNE
DOBYNS nor for her assignes to make any waste
or spoyle uppon the said premisses nor to cutt
downe spoyle or destroye any tree or trees growinge
upon the said premisses. Item my will is and I
doe hereby geive bequeath and devise unto
WILLIAM DOBYNS the sonne of my said sonne
PHILLIPPE DOBYNS all the said feilds groundes
and lands called Botlowes alias the Botlowes wth
the appertenances to have and to hould the same
unto the-said WILLIAM DOBYNS and to his heires
and assignes forever from and ymedyatelye after
the ende and expiracon of tenne yeres next after
my decease as aforesaid Item whereas I doe hould
of the Deane and chapter of the Cathedrall church
of the holy and indivisible trynity in Glouc by
indenture of Lease bearinge date the twentie
seaventh day of October in the tenth yeare of the
raigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles the Kings
Majestie that nowe is all that Messuage or tenemt
And alsoe one garden to the same adioyninge
togeather wth all howses buyldings edifices back-
sides and other easements and comodities to the
same belonginge situate lyeinge and knowne in the
Northgate Streete within the parishe of St John the
Baptiste within the Citye of Glouc for Divers yeares
yet to come and unexpired as in and by the said
Indenture of lease more playnely and at large yt
Doth and may appe. I doe geive devise and be-
queath all my estate right tytle interest and terme
of yeares wch I have yet to come and which are
unexpired of and in the said Messuage or tenement
and other the premisses with the apptenances
togeather with the said indenture of Lease to the
aforesaid DANIEL DOBYNS my sonne To have and
to hould the same to the said DANYELL DOBYNS
and to his executors and assignes for and Duringe
all the said tearme of yeares which are yet to
come and unexpired of an in the same, Item I give
and bequeath to SAMUELL DOBYNS gent my
Nephew and godsonne a peece of gould of ‘Ten
shillings Item I give and bequeath unto ANNE the
nowe wife of VALENTYNE POWELL clerk the
said ANNE being my neece and goodaughter a
peece of gould of tenn shillings Item I give and
bequeath to JOHAN RASTELL my neece a peece
of gould of five shillings. Item I give and bequeath
to JANE KEYSE my neece a peece of gould of five
shillings. Item I geive and bequeath to GYLES
DOBYNS the sonne of my brother GYLES DOBYNS
deceased six poundes of lawfull money of Engeland
to be paide and delivered to him within the space of
one whole yeare next after my decease yf he then
shalbe livinge. Item I give and bequeath unto
MARGARETT DOBYNS one of the daughters of
my said brother GlLES DOBYNS ‘Three poonds six
shillings and eight pence of lawfull money of Eng-
land to be paide and delivered to her at the end of
one yeare next after my decease yf shee shalbe
then livinge. Item I give and bequeath unto
ELINOR DOBYNS one other Daughter of my said
brother GILES DOBYNS the like some of ‘Three
pounds six shillings and eight pence of lawfull
money of England to be paide to her within one
yeare next after my decease yf shee shall be then
livinge. Item I geive and bequeath to such
servante and servantes which shalbe dwellinge
with me at the tyme of my decease ffive shillings
appeece. Item as conceming, all the rest of my
goodes howshould stuffe money plate debts owinge
unto me and chattels not herein geiven or bequeathed
I geive and bequeath unto PHILLIPP DOBYNS my
sonne whom doe make constitute ordeyne and
appointe to bee my full whole and sole Executor of
this my last will and testament, And I doe request
my loveinge well loved and much respected good
nephews ffRANCIS LYLL Esqe and SAMUELL
DOBYNS gent to be my Supervisors of this my last
will and testament to see and procure the same as
neare as they can or may to be duly and truly per-
formed, And for theire paines takinge therein I doe
give and bequeath unto them ten shillings appeece
the which I will that my said executor shall pay
and deliver unto each of them not with standinge
My former guieft unto the said SAMUELL before
geiven unto him, and my meaninge and desire is
that yf any doubt should arise concerninge this
my will wherein it may have doubtfull or severall
construccon in any parte thereof that then my said
supervisors shall decide the same accordinge as
they shall conceave to be agreeable to my true
intente and meaninge, In witnesse whereof I have
hereunto sett my hand and Seale the day and yeare
