Test: Phillippi Dobins

I Phillip Dobins of Compton in the

parish of Newent in the county of Gloucester gent allthough weake in bodie

yet of perfect memory for which I give thanks to God doe make my last will and

testament as followeth Imprimis I commend and committ my soule and body

unto the tuition of Allmighty God my heavenly father my creator and maker

and unto his sonne Jesus Christ my Lord God Saviour and Redeemer and unto God

the Holy Ghost my sanctifier and comforter three persons in trinity and one

Godhead in Unitie my most merciful and lovinge Lord God whom I doe pray and

humbly beseech to comitt and forgive unto me all my sinnes iniquities transgressions

and offences which I have committed in thought word and deede the which of God knows

and doe and must confess and acknowledge to be very many of and for the which I

doe most earnestly repent and am hartily sorrie and also I doe humbly beseech my most

merciful and loving Lord God when it shall please his divine Majestie to take and

redeem my soule and bodie as one of his elect and chosen servants of which number

I doe hope trust and verily believe I am one to Reigne with his sonne Jesus Christ

my Lord and Saviour and others his most blessed people children and servants and so

enter[?] his Everlasting Kingdom of Heaven there to give him laude and praise for ever

more And nowe as concerning all the landes goodes chattels cattle corne money plate

and debts owing unto me which God of his goodnesse and mercie hath given and lent

me in this worlde I doe devise and bequeathe the same as followes Imprimis I

doe bequeathe and give unto the poor peolple of the towne and parish of Newent the summe

of sixe pounds the same to be distributed among them by Elianor my very loving and

---------- wife to such of them and in such proportions as she shall think to be

most & full[?] Item I give towards the reparation of the church of Newent aforesayd sixe

shilinges eight pence And whereas one yearley rent of ffifty pounds was heretofore

setled and assured by my deceased father an----- to my sayd wife for the terme of her life

for her mayntenance and foyuture after my decease if she shall survive me And for

that I am confidant that she will continue and be during her life a very loving

and naturall mother unto our children and their posteritie Therefore for her better

support and maintenance in lieue and satisfaction of the said yearely rent I doe

devise and bequeathe to my sayd wife for and during so long time as she shall con-

tinue a widow all and singular my Messuages houses buildings Gardens Orchards and

Tenements meadows cloases Leasowes pastures roads and herediments whatsoever

by what name or names soever they are called whereof or wherein I have any

state[?] of inheritance as are situate lying or being in the parishes of Newent Pauntley

in the said county of Gloucester and Redmarley Dabitott in the county of Wor-

cestor or in any or either of them or also where in the Realme of England suits alle singuler

-------and----- of their appurtenances And with all ----- the ------ rent and rents

and --------- ------------ and ---- ---- ----------- payable by virtue of any

Lease leases made propotionaly therefore of any parte or partes thereof And I doe divise

and bequeath to my sayd wife the bed whereon she most usually lyeth upon with all her furniture

threreof and --- payed of my --- which she shall make choice of Item I doe devise and bequeath to my

daughter Elizabeth being the wife of John Cowcher gent all those my several Messuages landes and

tenements called by the name or names of Baldeno at Wolowe-gatt[?] and Botloes situate and

lying in the sayd parishes of Newent and Pauntley and with all houses buildings gardens orchards

landes tenements meadows and pastures thereunto or to other of them or to any parte or

partes thereof at any time belonging or appurtaining and with all their appurtenances And

also all that parcell of landes or pasture called Crumpe[?] Crofte lying and being in the

sayd parish of Newent and countie of Gloucester with -- appurtenances hereof and also all

that my meadowe called Chauntris Meadow purchased by my father of Richard ffrome[?]

also lying and being in the sayd p'sh of Newent and countie of Gloucester with appurtenances

thereof And those my ----- Messuages called Garto[?] and ---- situate and being in the

sayd parish of Redmarley Dabitot and countie of Worcester with their appurtenances And all

other Messuages houses gardens orchards landes tenements meadowes lease--- pastures

woods and heredements whatsoever as are situate lying or being in the sayd parish of

Redmarley Dabitot --- wherein the sayd county of Worcester to have and to hold to --- my

sayd daughter Elizabeth for the terme of her life from and after the determination of

--- hereby formerlly devised to my sayd wife And I doe devise all and singular the sayd messuages

gardens orchards landes tenements meadowes pastures and all other the premisses hereby formerlly

devised or intended to be hereby devised to my sayd daughter Elizabeth with all and every

of their appurtenances and the remainder thereof after the determination of the Estate therein of my

sayd wife and daughter Elizabeth to John Cowcher the younger being the sonne and heyre ap-

parente of my sayd daughter Elizabeth and to his heyres and forever Item I doe devise and bequeeth

to my daghter Anne Dobins being my second daughter and to her heyres forever after

the determination of the Estate thereof hereby formerlly devised to my sayd wife All that

my messuages -------- or ------- by the name of the Grange situate and being in the sayd

parishe of Newent and county of Gloucester now or late in the ---- or possession of

Samuel Dalley with all houses buildings gardens orchards lands tenements meadowes

------ pastures thereto belonging and therewith demised to the sayd Samuel Dalley

with all and singular their appurtenances and also one meadowe lying in the sayd

parish of Newent and County of Gloucester heretofor purchased by my father of

one Thomas Dobbins alsoe five de--- being also demised with the sayd messuages

called the Grange to the sayd Dalley and now is or late was in the possession of the sayd

Dalley with appurtenances thereof and also all that my landes and tenements called or

known by the name or names of Lilley (being five severall parcelles) lying in the sayd

parish of Newent and County of Gloucester with all and singular their appurtenances

And alsoe one ----- meadowe called the Longe Meadowe and also one p--- or parcel

of lande which was purchased by my father together with the sayd meadowe called the

Longe Meadowe of one Christopher Hooke also now deceased with the appurtenances thereof

the which sayd meadowe and ---- herein lastly mentioned doe also lye within sayd

parish of Newent and County of Gloucester and are now in my possession And also

all those my three several houses Burgages or Tenements situate and being in the towne

of Newent in the sayd County of Gloucester in the ------- and respective tenure or

possession of John Harris Hester[?] Edward and Joseph Pitt and with all buildings gardens

orchards lande easemente ------ -arksides[?] and profitte to the sayd three houses Burgages

or Tenements or to any or either of them belonging or appurtaining And I doe also devise

and bequeath to my sayd daughter Anne Dobbins the summe of ffive hundred pounds

to be paid by my Executo and whereof one hundred pounds was the gift of my father

to her Two hundred and fifty pounds thereof to be paid within half a yeare of my decease

and thother two hundred and fifty pounde to be paid within one yeare next after my

decease And I doe devise unto my youngest daughter Ellinoranne Dobins and to her

------ for ---- all that my Capitall Messuage and cheife Mansion house called

Maldene Courte with th' appurtenances thereof And also all those my other three

Messuages called or known by those several or respective names of Gill [or Hill?] house Greve[?] and

Nashe[?] with their each of their appurtenances And also all those my two severall

meadowes with their appurtenances called or known by the names of Litchford

Meadowe and Rusham meadowe and all other my messuages houses buildings

gardens orcharde landes tenements meadowes Leasowes pastures and heredia-

ments whatsoever and are situate lying or being in the sayd parish of Newent

and Pauntley or in either of them in the sayd county of Gloucester or elsewhere

in the sayd county of Gloucester which are not herein formerly devised or intended

to be hereby devised to my sayd two older Daughters or to one of them or to the sayd

John Cowcher the younger and with all and singular their and every of their appur-

Tenances to have and to hold to her the sayd Ellinoranne Dobins and her heyres

Imediately upon the determination of my sayd wife's Estate therein either by her

---- or next marriage Item I doe bequeath unto my brother Daniel Dobins gent

a token of any leu and remembrance of him the summe of Ten pounds to be paid

within one yeare of my decease And as cocerning all the rest of my goods household stuff

money debts owing to me and chattells both -- all and personall not herein or hereby

given or bequeathed I give and bequeath unto Ellinoranne Dobins my youngest

daughter whome I doe make and constitute to be my whole and sole Executrix of

this my last will and testament Item I doe request my loving friends ffrancis

Lill and John Bearcrofte Esq and Samuel Dobins gent to be overseers of this

my last will and testament and to use their best indeavour to prowve the same to be

truly performed and for their pains therein I devise unto them Tenn shillinges a

piece And further my meaning and desire is that if any doubt or doubts shall arise

concerning this my last will wherein it might have a doubtful or several construct-

tion in any part thereof That then my sayd Overseers and the survivor of them

shall decide and determine the same according as they shall contrive to be agreeable

to my true intente and meaning In witness whereof I have hereunto putt my

hand and seale the sixteenth day of July in the year of our Lord God one thousand

sixe hundred fifty one Phi: Dobins Philip Dobins of Compton in the county of

Gloucester gent published this writing to be his last will and testament it being

written in fower severall sheetes of paper am--ed together under every of the

sayd sheetes of paper he- subscribed his name in th--------- whose names

This Will was proved at London before Sir Nathaniel Brent Knight doctor of

London and Master or Keeper of the Prerogative Court the third day of December in the

year of our Lord God one thousand six hundred fiftie one by the Oathe of Elianor Dobbins

the daughter of the deceased and executrix therein named to whom Administration of

all and singular the goodes chattells and debts of the sayd deceased with any

---------- the same will was granted and committed she being first legally sworne

by virtue of a commission in that behalf issued forth well and truly to administer the

same goodes chattells and debts
