This cabinet was created by Philip Dobbins for Glenfiddich single malt whisky, to showcase two exceptional 51 year old whiskies at the Master of Spirits event in Singapore. Whiskies of this rarity are sought after by the most discerning connoisseurs. With the cabinet and contents priced at a six figure sum, there was no question about the standard of craftsmanship and materials required for the cabinet. One of the whiskies was matured in an American oak barrel, so the cabinet was constructed with an American white oak outer shell. The second whisky was matured in a sherry butt, and the rich colours of burr elm and santos rosewood reflect this. The very fine inlay work, to be laid on curved surfaces, was achieved with laser cut veneers. The process allowed the finest of detail, surpassing hand-cut marquetry.
